'Machan this is awesome! Why don't we offer this experience to others?' We were camping in a vineyard somewhere near a town called Suruli in Theni district of Tamilnadu. The conversation we had that night was the spark.
We were compulsive campers who would set out on trips every weekend to escape the rigours of city life (Sounds cliched eh…) We had managed to import a camping tent through a friend who had gone on an onsite to the US. Suddenly our lives changed! We got access to breathtaking locations. We would pitch our tents in practically every picteresque location we travel to. That’s how we had ended up in the vineyard.
Biggest concerns for anyone wanting to go camping in India are finding safe campsites & clean toilets. And so we set out with the sole motto of addressing these painpoints. We shaped & reshaped the idea over several camps, worked on infra, safety & got it into a workable form.Today as we speak, all camspites listed in Exoticamp are privately owned campsites, with clean toilets, basic first-aid kit, trained local hosts & back-up cottage / dormitories for rough weather contingency.
Since camping was fairly new to India, to ease families & solo travellers into camping, we introduced open for all, non-alcoholic & non-smoking camping events across Southern India. What’s camping without exploring hiking trails, hidden streams, waterfalls and local flora & fauna? So we added guided local experiences to the package. We also made it a point not to mechanically list campsites without atleast any one of us experiencing & finetuning the campsite.
These breakthrough ideas kick started a camping trend, encouraged a lot of families & solo women travellers to take to outdoors.
A rating of 4.9/5.0 across social media platforms with close to 1000 reviews and the accolade of being the highest rated camping startup are a testament to our relentless efforts.
The question that sparked the company 'This is amazing, why don't we share this experience with others?' still keeps us going. Five years on, the question that's asked amongst our team after every single camp is 'Hey! How did the guests like the experience? All happy?' As long as this spirit remains we shall chug on!
